Founded
September 22, 2008

Amateur dramatics without any of the stress: we assign the parts, get together and read/act the plays out loud. Costume, props and silly accents encouraged but entirely optional!

And we don't just do Shakespeare: other plays, Elizabethan or not, film scripts, TV shows are all fair game. It's an awful lot of fun and I encourage you to sign up... the words are dead if you leave them on the page!

One of our first non-Shakespearean plays in a long time: "Cash on Delivery" by Michael Cooney is a farce with "lies, lies and more lies, people getting knocked out, men without their trousers, mis-timings, mistaken identities, cross dressing and dead bodies."

Eric Swan has been running a tax fraud by claiming benefit for fictitious lodgers. Read more

What members are saying

a good way to be involved in drama and socialize

Mallory

Others should join because the only requirement is that you want to read Shakespeare. It is a trouble-free couple of hours on a Sunday, sort of like chamber music, only free.

“I’m pretty new to Meetups and new to doing Readthroughs, but it sounds like a lot of fun. I’m joining in hopes of making friends with other Lit Geeks like me, and I’m particularly looking forward to reading any of Shakespeare’s tragedies.”

“I have precious little experience with acting, but it's always been fun, and this sounds like a group that's all about the fun instead of perfection.”
